Line Dance is a type of dance that is danced in rows next to each other and behind each other. Mostly you dance to Country or New Country music. But also with pop or other types of music the "styled" dance group does not get embarrassed... Why don't you dance with them yourself?
Where does line dancing come from?
Nobody knows exactly how and where line dance came about. One speculation goes back to emigrants who once settled in the USA. From clan dances of the Irish and Scots, to minuet, polka and contra dance - the different dance forms from all over the world were cultivated in the new homeland and brought closer to many people.
Line Dance on the upswing
At the end of the 50's, dancing in line became really popular. At that time the American TV show "American Bandstand" was on everyone's lips. There the newest dances were shown under the name Line Dance. In the following decades group dancing boomed, not least because of the movies "Urban Cowboy" with John Travolta or "Achy breaky heart" with Billy Ray Cyrus.
